                         Biography

Charlice Byrd is presently serving the people of District 20 in the Georgia House of Representatives. She is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University where she spent the late 1970’s as an educator.

She serves on five committees: Vice Chairman of Children and Youth, Economic Development and Tourism, Health and Human Services, Judiciary Non-Civil and Special Rules.

he is a long-time community and political activist.  While living in Hong Kong from 1995-1997, she was President of the League of Women Voters and served on the board for Republicans Abroad.  Her background also includes serving as President of the Republican Women’s Club, the executive board for the Republican Party, campaign manager for her husband Mike’s successful 2000 campaign for Chairman of the Cherokee County Commission and numerous other campaigns.  She is a graduate of Coverdell Leadership Institute, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), Georgia Legislative Leadership Institute (GLLI) and Leadership Cherokee.

In addition to her political activities, Charlice donates her time and finances to the Friends of the Library, the Historical Society, the Volunteer Aging Council, the Optimist Club, the Chamber of Commerce, My House for medically fragile children 0-5 years of age and Town Lake Arts Center.  She was named the 2006 “Person of the Year” for the Cherokee County Aging Council, crowned Queen of the 2006 Mardi Gras Ball for the Cherokee County Arts Council, honored to be added to Who’s Who in Asian American Communities, named one of the top twenty-five most influential Asians in Georgia by the Asian Times Magazine for a third consecutive year, named 2007 United States Legislator of the Year for Biotechnology, received the 2008 Georgia BIO Community Award, honored and inducted into the 2008 Academy of Women Leaders for The YWCA of Northwest Georgia, awarded the 2008 Mamie K. Taylor Award from Business and Professional  Women of Georgia and recently given the Public Policy Award for the Georgia Epilepsy Foundation.

harlice was born to Eugene and Beverly Hew in New Orleans, Louisiana with a heritage of one-half Chinese, Irish, English and Scottish.

She and her husband, Michael call Woodstock home and are members of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock.
